G'day! I'm Jonathan 👋
Engineer-turned-doctor, note-taker extraordinaire, and the nerd behind MDnerd.
As a biomedical engineer in a previous life, I entered medicine with a lot of unknowns. Early on I discovered that every textbook, online resource and lecture slide seemed to have its own opinion — different information, different emphasis, and rarely set out in a way that was actually pleasant to study from. So, like any good engineer, I decided to build the thing I couldn’t find.
MDnerd began as the collection of my final-year medical school notes, written and refined during that long, arduous (and honestly pretty wonderful) journey. It collates and integrates information from Talley & O’Connor’s Clinical Examination, online OSCE revision resources (including AMBOSS, AMSA and OSCEstop), RACGP guidelines, lecture notes and plenty of hard-won ward lessons — distilled into something you can actually read the night before an exam.
Now, as an Australian doctor, I’m keeping the project alive in the spirit of FOAMed — Free Open-Access Medical Education. Everything here is free, and always will be. One small ask: treat these notes as a guide and a springboard, not gospel — always check current guidelines and your local policies before acting on anything clinically.
I’ll also occasionally post my experiences — electives, rural rotations, volunteering — and new ventures and projects over the course of the medical journey, so stay tuned for those on the (AD)Ventures page. I hope this website is useful to you and helps guide your studies!
Medicine is stressful and relentless — so be kind to yourself. Progress over perfection, sleep over one more flashcard, and coffee with a friend over both. We’re all in this together. 💙
If MDnerd helps you, the best thing you can do is share it with your classmates. Please subscribe for updates, and feel free to reach out with any questions using the form below — I read everything.
